I have spent the last two years attempting to record my life in a blog. Unfortunately my good intentions quickly gave way to procrastination and laziness. Although I have previously created accounts with Blogger, Wordpress, and Tumblr, I found it hard to get motivated to do anything more than repost GIFS or comment on other people's work. As 2012 came to an end, I found myself most disappointed with my inability to share more of myself with the world. Once I came to terms with this defeat, I realized that I could use the new year as a jumping off point to get more motivated.
I spent the month of December trying to psych myself up for getting back into the writing grind. Although it was slow going at first, I found myself regularly visiting the Blogger account of an old coworker. Through her writing, I felt the gears in my own mind start to move again. In a few short weeks I noticed that my previously neglected Tumblr was starting to fill up with musings of my own. Encouraged by this shift, I decided to reach out to the person who unknowingly inspired my return to writing.
With the new year barely started, I took a leap. I wrote my friend a note and prayed that I didn't come off as some kind of creeper. My letter expressed enthusiasm for her work and in a moment of sheer boldness, I suggested that we start bouncing ideas off one another. I hit send and prayed for a positive response, Effie Trinket's signature tag line resounding in my head.
Thankfully, The odds were in my favor. Not only was my enthusiasm shared, my friend knew how to get things rolling. In less than two weeks time she identified a free writer's workshop that we could attend and created a writing group that included 3 other former Borders Books Store employees.
Fast forwarding two weeks, I sit here today catching up on this week's Biggest Loser and sifting through every piece of writing I have produced over the last 365 days. Having spent this Monday attending a meeting of The Long Island Writers Guild with my newly reacquainted friends, we have decided to attempt to create a writing group of our own. In preparation for this weekly group-share, I am reentering the world of blogging in order to keep the creative juices flowing.
So this is me saying hello again, welcome to my inner most thoughts and ideas. I will warn you that the entries that follow will most likely include a lot of "nerding-out," book reviews, and opinion pieces on the outcomes of my favorite television shows. But I can assure you that whatever writing makes it here will be a reflection of honest thoughts, the good, the bad, and the indifferent. So brace your self kiddos, I am back in action!
Also Id like to give a quick shout out to Ashley who has put me back on the road to writing. Be sure to check out her equally nerdy blog: http://weepingwillowwords.blogspot.com/ !!
I'm not going to lie... I got slightly joked up when I read this! I am so so SO excited that we have started a writing group and that you are on blogger! I love the entire layout of this page and I absolutely love your writing. Kindred Spirits!
